Building Multimodal Intelligence into Agentic Services

Introduction

The International Conference on AI and Multimodal Services (AIMS) is an international forum for advancing artificial intelligence, multimodal learning, content generation, human–AI interaction, and the delivery of AI capabilities as services.

The evolution from the International Conference on AI and Mobile Services to the International Conference on AI and Multimodal Services reflects a fundamental change in digital intelligence. Modern AI systems increasingly integrate text, images, speech, audio, video, sensor signals, and other forms of information rather than operating within a single modality or interaction channel.

AIMS studies how AI systems can understand, align, generate, retrieve, and reason across these modalities, and how such capabilities can be developed, evaluated, delivered, and managed as dependable services.

AIMS 2026 welcomes original research, system innovations, empirical studies, datasets, benchmarks, tools, user studies, and evidence-based applications that advance AI and multimodal services.

AIMS 2026 Theme

The theme of AIMS 2026 is:

Agentic AI as a Service for Multimodal Services

Multimodal foundation models have enabled AI systems to process and generate combinations of language, images, audio, video, and other forms of information. Agentic AI extends these capabilities by enabling systems to interpret goals, formulate plans, maintain memory, invoke tools, coordinate with other agents, and perform multi-step tasks.

For the AIMS community, the central question is:

How can multimodal AI capabilities be developed and delivered as agentic services that perceive, reason, generate, interact, and act across modalities?

Multimodal Agentic AI moves intelligent services:

  • From single-modality processing to cross-modal understanding

  • From content generation to perception, reasoning, and action

  • From prompt–response interaction to persistent multimodal agents

  • From isolated models to coordinated AI-service ecosystems

  • From passive interfaces to adaptive human–agent interaction

  • From benchmark performance to trustworthy real-world outcomes

Agentic multimodal services may interpret a spoken request, examine images or video, retrieve relevant knowledge, generate a plan, invoke specialized models and tools, and communicate the result through the most appropriate modality.

Realizing this vision requires advances in multimodal representation, alignment, grounding, reasoning, generation, model coordination, service composition, evaluation, safety, privacy, provenance, and human oversight.

AIMS 2026 invites researchers and practitioners to develop the AI foundations and multimodal capabilities needed for trustworthy and useful Agentic AI as a Service.

Scope and Topics of Interest

AIMS focuses on artificial intelligence models and methods, multimodal understanding and generation, cross-modal interaction, and the delivery of AI capabilities as services.

Research whose primary contribution concerns cloud infrastructure, general service engineering, Web protocols, large-scale data systems, edge platforms, IoT infrastructure, cognitive architectures, or blockchain should be submitted to the corresponding SCF conference unless it makes a clear contribution to AI or multimodal services.

4. Multimodal Service Engineering and Delivery

Paper Tracks

Review and Submission Requirements

All submissions must report original and unpublished work and must not be under review elsewhere at the time of submission.

Each manuscript will be reviewed by at least three program committee members. Papers will be evaluated according to:

  • Relevance to AIMS

  • Originality and significance

  • Technical or practical quality

  • Strength of experimental or empirical evidence

  • Clarity and organization

  • Reproducibility

  • Research, user, or real-world impact

Papers should position their contributions accurately within the relevant international literature. Authors are encouraged to cite AIMS and other conferences or journals when genuinely relevant. Citation of any particular venue is not required.

Research Track and Application and Industry Track manuscripts are limited to 15 pages in the Springer LNCS format. Short Paper Track manuscripts are limited to 8 pages. Authors may purchase up to two additional pages, subject to the applicable publication fee. Special Paper Track submissions should follow the limits specified in the corresponding call.

Authors must use the official Springer LNCS templates:

Electronic submission in PDF or Word format is required. Manuscripts that do not follow the required format or exceed the permitted page limit may be returned without review.

A Research Track submission that primarily presents an application or deployed solution may be recommended for consideration by the Application and Industry Track.

At least one author of each accepted paper must register for AIMS 2026 and present the paper at the conference.

Paper Submission

Conference Proceedings

Accepted and presented AIMS 2026 papers will be published in the conference proceedings, which are scheduled to appear in Springer’s Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series.

Springer makes LNCS proceedings available to major abstracting and indexing services. Final inclusion of a volume or individual paper is determined by the policies and selection criteria of each indexing service.

Under the current SCF publication arrangement, the AIMS 2026 proceedings are expected to become freely accessible through SpringerLink four years after publication.

Extended versions of selected papers may be invited to relevant partner journals. Journal submissions must include substantial extensions and will undergo the journal’s independent editorial and peer-review process.

Awards

AIMS 2026 will recognize outstanding contributions through:

  • Best Paper Award

  • Best Student Paper Award

For the Best Student Paper Award, the first author must be a full-time student.

Important Dates

The AIMS 2026 technical program includes four submission tracks.

Research Track

The Research Track welcomes original and technically rigorous contributions that advance AI models, multimodal learning, agentic intelligence, generation, interaction, or AI-service methods.

Research papers should:

  • Clearly define the research problem and contribution

  • Explain the novelty relative to relevant international literature

  • Present technically sound methods

  • Use appropriate datasets, baselines, metrics, and ablation studies

  • Provide rigorous and reproducible evaluation

  • Discuss limitations, risks, and threats to validity

  • Demonstrate a generalizable contribution to AI or multimodal services

Application and Industry Track

The Application and Industry Track focuses on deployed AI systems, multimodal applications, industry solutions, and evidence-based experience.

Papers should:

  • Describe a significant real-world problem

  • Explain the AI or multimodal system design

  • Present deployment evidence, user evaluation, or measurable outcomes

  • Discuss data, safety, privacy, scalability, and operational constraints

  • Identify lessons that can be transferred to other settings

  • Clarify the practical or system-level innovation

Papers in this track do not need to introduce a new AI model. However, they should contribute through application innovation, system integration, deployment evidence, user impact, or generalizable practical knowledge.

Short Paper Track

The Short Paper Track welcomes focused contributions, including:

  • Promising early-stage research

  • Novel AI or multimodal system concepts

  • Emerging challenges and research visions

  • Datasets, benchmarks, tools, and reusable artifacts

  • Focused empirical findings or negative results

  • Concise deployment and user-study reports

Short papers must clearly state their contribution, evidence, relationship to prior work, and limitations.

Special Paper Track

The Special Paper Track addresses designated emerging topics and community priorities announced by AIMS 2026. Submissions should follow the requirements of the corresponding special-track call.

Academic Development

AIMS evolved from the International Conference on AI and Mobile Services into the International Conference on AI and Multimodal Services. This development reflects the expansion of digital interaction from mobile channels to integrated text, image, speech, audio, video, sensor, and immersive modalities.

Recent AIMS conferences were held in Seattle in 2018, San Diego in 2019, virtually in 2020 and 2021, Honolulu in 2022 and 2023, Bangkok in 2024, and Hong Kong in 2025.

AIMS 2026 continues this evolution by examining how multimodal intelligence can be transformed into interactive, trustworthy, and agentic AI services.

AIMS and Smart Computing Frontier

AIMS is a member of the Smart Computing Frontier, a federation of ten co-located international conferences.

Within SCF, AIMS focuses on AI models and methods, multimodal understanding and generation, intelligent interaction, and the delivery of AI capabilities as services.

Its scope is complementary to the other SCF conferences:

  • ICWS focuses on Web interfaces, APIs, protocols, and Web-based services.

  • SCC focuses on general service engineering, lifecycle management, and value creation.

  • CLOUD focuses on cloud infrastructure, platforms, and resource management.

  • BigData focuses on large-scale data systems and analytics.

  • ICIOT focuses on connected devices and Internet of Things systems.

This structure supports interdisciplinary collaboration while preserving AIMS’s distinctive identity as the conference devoted to AI and multimodal services.
